The Chase is an American television quiz show based on a British program of the same name. The show airs on August 6, 2013, on the Game Show Network (GSN). It's hosted by Brooke Burns, and features Mark Labbett (nicknamed "The Beast") as a "hunter".
The American version of the show follows the same general format as the original English version, but with teams of three contestants instead of four. This game is a quiz competition in which contestants try to win money by challenging the genius show of quizzes known as pursuers. Each contestant participates in an individual "chase" called the Money Builder, where they try to answer as many questions as possible within 60 seconds to earn as much money as possible to contribute to the prize fund for the team. Contestants must answer enough questions to stay ahead of the chasers on the board; otherwise they lose their victory for that round. Contestants who successfully complete their individual pursuits without being caught forward to Final Chase, where they answer questions as a team that plays for the same share of prize funds accumulated throughout the episode.
The Chase received a positive critical reception; Burns and Labbett earned positive reviews for their roles, and one critic praised the series for avoiding slowness of gameplay. Both the series and Burns received a nomination nomination Daytime Emmy Award; the series was nominated in 2014 for the Outstanding Game Show, and Burns two years later for the Outstanding Game Show Host. Each loses from Jeopardy! and Craig Ferguson (host of Celebrity Names Games ) respectively.

Gameplay
Cash Builder and individual hunt
Three new contestants compete in every episode as a team. In the first half, each contestant in turn wins money for their team by answering as many questions as possible right during a quick one-minute round, entitled "Cash Builder". Each correct answer in this round adds $ 5,000 to the bank; during a celebrity episode, the contestant starts with $ 5,000 already in the bank. At the end of the Cash Builder, participants participate in key elements of the show called "chase". In pursuit, pursuers and contestants answer each question; the contestant begins with a profit, and the pursuer tries to catch up. The purpose of the contestant is to answer enough questions correctly to move the victory gained along the board into the team bank without being caught by the chaser, whose job is to catch them by exploiting their mistakes.
Hunters started eight spaces away from the bank. Contestants have the option to start five steps from the bank, which means that they have to answer five questions correctly without getting caught up to the money bank and proceeding to the next round. Before the chase begins, the chaser will make two offers to the contestant: one bid will play for a lower amount, but start one step closer to the bank, which means that they have to answer one less question correctly; another bid will play for a higher amount, but start one step further from the bank. Sometimes, if a participant chooses a higher bid, the pursuer may increase the bet by offering a "higher bid" for a higher amount. In this case, the contestant must answer seven questions correctly without being caught, requiring perfect pursuit unless the pursuer answers wrongly at any point.
Once the participant decides the amount to be played, the prize money is displayed on the board of the game. Contestants and pursuers are presented with the same multiple-choice questions, and each key in their answer, which can then not be changed; others have five seconds to answer after them, otherwise they are locked and not advanced on the board game. For every question the contestant answered correctly, the prize money shown on the board game moved a step closer to the team bank. Similarly, the pursuers move one step closer to the contestant's money prize with each correct answer. Further questions are asked until the contestant reaches the end of the board (thus banking prize money), or the catcher catches the contestants, removing them from the game. No movements are made by contestants or pursuers if wrong answers are given or if they are locked by a deadline.
After all three contestants have played the Cash Builder round followed by the chase, the contestants are not caught by the chaser forward to Final Chase, with the bank team fixing the total they won in the Cash Builder round. If all three contestants fail to win their respective pursuits, the team selects one contestant to play Final Chase alone for a total of $ 15,000 ($ 5,000 per contestant). During a celebrity episode, contestants are caught on leave with $ 5,000 for each charity.
The Final Chase
Final Chase is played on the board game. The team receives the start of a space for each member that progresses to this round. During ad breaks, the team selects between two sets of questions, labeled "A" and "B". Hunters play other sets. Contestants have two minutes to answer as many questions as possible. After the question is asked, the answer should be instantaneous, and the contestant is only allowed to answer or ask questions after the first incoming call. If the contestant rings in but other contestants answer, the answer is considered wrong even if it is true. If there's only one contestant in Final Chase, then he does not ring. Any questions that are answered correctly within the time limit move the team one space forward on the board.
After the end of time, the chaser is given two minutes to capture the team by correctly answering a new set of questions, with each correct answer moving him a space along the board. If the answer of the pursuer is false or passes, the clock pauses and the team is given an opportunity to answer the question, which they can confirm among themselves before answering. The correct answer encourages the pursuit of one space, or moves the team forward with one if he has not moved to the gameboard. Wrong answers do not provide movement for pursuers at all. Regardless of the outcome, the clock starts running again and the chaser continues to answer questions. If the pursuer runs out of time before capturing the team, the team splits the money to turn the same, but if he catches them before the time expires, the team leaves without money. During a celebrity episode, if the catcher catches the team before time runs out, the team goes with $ 15,000 divided equally.

Production
The Chase came from England, premiering at ITV in 2009. As the series became increasingly popular in the UK, Fox ordered two pilot episodes in April 2012 to be recorded in London for consideration to be added to the programming line US network. Bradley Walsh, the presenter of the English version, is featured as an emcee, while British chaser Mark Labbett (nicknamed "The Beast", which is "la bÃÆ'ªte" in French) and champion Jeopardy! Brad Rutter is a hunter.
After Fox missed the opportunity to add the series to the ranks, Game Show Network (GSN), along with ITV Studios America, took the series in eight episodes on April 9, 2013, and announced Brooke Burns as host and Labbett as pursuers on May 29th. And Patrick was originally regarded as the host. The first season premiered on August 6, 2013. Although the show has not aired at the time, the network ordered the second season of eight episodes on July 1, 2013, which aired on November 5th. Quoting the status of the series as "Rating Phenom", the GSN finally announced plans to update it for the third season, which aired in the summer of 2014. During the third season, the series also aired the first issue of celebrities with celebrity contestants who play for charity. The GSN continues to update the series for the fourth season before the end of the third season; this new season starts airing January 27, 2015. After the seventh episode of the season, this series went on another hiatus; the new episode of the fourth season is again aired July 16, 2015. No new episodes aired since the fourth season, which airs December 11, 2015.
Reception
Critical reception
The Chase is generally well received by critics. Michael Tyminski of Manhattan Digest reviewed this series positively, calling it "breathing fresh air" and praising Burns and Labbett in their respective roles. Tyminski adds that although the difficulty level of each question is not always on par with those on other quiz shows such as Jeopardy! , this show avoids "very slow speed". Similarly, John Teti of The A.V. Club called the show a "pretty good adaptation" from its UK counterpart. While he prefers the English version of the show, saying that he has "a more varied cast and stronger production values", Teti feels that the American version "still has his own." The Chase is also ranked ninth in Douglas Pucci's list of the best new television show of 2013 (from TV Media Insight ).

The Chase became one of the highest measurable original program in GSN history. The series debuted to 511,000 total viewers during the premiere while retaining 90% of the audience with 461,000 total viewers during the second episode aired that night. On January 28, 2014, The Chase set a new high series for total audiences and adults 18-49, with 827,000 and 234,000 viewers respectively. Despite the premiere third season falling in the rankings of the high series, getting 494,000 viewers with just 73,000 in demographics of 18-49, the fourth season premiere saw a considerable increase during the previous season's premiere, resulting in a total of 749,000 viewers.
Merchandise
On December 18, 2013, Barnstorm Games released the mobile version of games for iOS and Android. The only difference between an app and a show is that four options are presented for questions in Cash Builder and Final Chase rounds and that no Final Chase is played if all players are caught in their respective hunts. This app features Labbett (called by its nickname "Beast") as a simulated pursuer and can be played by up to four people.
