Brown syrup is a sweet and flavorful brown spice. Other uses

Brown syrup is often used in black and white films to simulate blood, because it is safe for players to swallow, easy to get out of clothes, and cheap to buy. It's also useful in black and white movies for realistic density. It's used in many movies, including The Wasp Woman and Psycho .

Beginning in the 1890s, chocolate syrup is also marketed as a treatment for illness, including for babies suffering from colic. Partly because of the passage of the 1906 Food and Pure Drug Act, which requires accurate labeling, chocolate syrup is beginning to shift from medical applications to commercial use.
