The HIPO model (short for the hierarchical input process output model) is an analysis of the system design and documentation techniques of the 1970s, used to represent the system module as a hierarchy and to document every module.
It is used to develop requirements, build designs, and support expert system implementations to demonstrate automated rendezvous. The verification is then performed systematically because of the design and implementation methods.
The overall design of the system is documented using a HIPO chart or chart structure. The structure chart is similar in appearance to the organization chart, but has been modified to show additional details. Structural charts can be used to display some types of information, but are most commonly used for diagrams of either data structures or code structures.
