The fifth generation Ford Taurus is a car manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company for the 2008 and 2009 models. Originally intended as a mid-cycle update of Ford Five Hundred, the Ford Taurus nameplate was revived after its opening in 2007 Chicago Auto Show. As the replaced Taurus replaces the Ford Five Hundred, the revived Mercury Sable replaces Mercury Montego; Ford Freestyle was renamed to Ford Taurus X.
Maintaining Ford D3 platform Ford Five Hundred, the fifth-generation Ford Taurus shifted from mid-segment to full-size segment. With 2008 Ford Crown Victoria's withdrawal from the retail market, Taurus became Ford's largest sedan (excluding fleet sales). When Ford Taurus X was marketed as a crossover SUV, the fifth-generation Taurus became the first Taurus version to be sold exclusively as a four-door sedan; the all-wheel drive becomes an option for the first time.
The fifth-generation Ford Taurus was assembled in Chicago, Illinois at the Chicago Assembly, alongside Mercury Sable and Lincoln MKS. Taurus 2008-2009 is marketed in North America, South Korea, Mexico, and the Middle East. Outside the United States, Canada, and South Korea, it retains the previous Ford Five Hundred branding.
For the 2010 model year, this generation was replaced by the sixth generation Ford Taurus, which is the current North American version (per year model 2018).

Design
As a modified and modified five-dimensional brand, Taurus 5G features 30% more engine power; front facelift; chrome-trimmed, fender faux-fender-located machine; revised taillights; and an increase in the size of sound absorption, including foam pellets extended to pillar A and new sound absorbing materials, marketed as Sonosorb , are used throughout the body. Taurus 5G uses a new 6-speed automatic transmission (GM-Ford 6 speed automatic transmission, developed in conjunction with General Motors), unlike the Aisin 6-speed used in Five Hundred, and is no longer equipped with CVT. Handling is revised with front-engine reengineering - transferring machine weight from sub-frames directly to the chassis through a hydraulic stand - enhancing the front suspension journey by 10mm (10%) and reversing the suspension.
Exterior
The exterior of the Taurus 5G is largely carried from the Five Hundreds, apart from the revised front fascia with three-bar grille, headlights and fog lamps; revised taillights; satellite radio antennas mounted on the roof; and patented fake machine ventilation. Each trim level has a new wheel.
Ford's chief designer, Peter Horbury, said that the Five Hundred styling has been problematic and said the front and rear facia modifications: "When we do face lift, and it becomes Taurus, it does not make the world burn up either If you overhaul the end of Sydney Harbor Bridge, I sure you still know what that is. '"
Interior
Like the exterior, the Taurus 5G interior is mostly carried from Five Hundreds with subtle differences like the woodgrain and the new darker steering wheel. Ford relocated the eraser switch from the left side (like Five Hundreds) to the turn signal shaft on the right side, as has been the design of every Taurus since its introduction in 1986.
The interior features a revised radio faceplate with chrome trim around the button, a new double tray on the center console, and a new shifter design. In particular the 5G Taurus features a SYNC Ford system, developed by Microsoft, that receives voice commands and can connect the driver's phone and MP3 player to the car, while organizing personal information.
Models and Machines
The Taurus 5G is offered in SE, SEL and trim level Limited. SE sells for approximately $ 24,000 US $, with the middle option SEL at US $ 26,000 and Limited of US $ 30,000. This Taurus generation uses a 263 hp 3.5 'L Duratec 35 V6 which replaces the 203 hp (151 kW) Duratec 30 3.0 V V6. The Five Hundred/Freestyle's ZF-Batavia CVT, which has a maximum torque capacity of 221 pounds (300 N), is also replaced with a six-speed Ford-GM joint venture that can withstand the additional torque of the Duratec 35s. Aisin AW six-speed automatic used on FWD Five Hundred and Montegos is also replaced by a 6-speed GM-Ford automatic transmission.

Taurus nameplate
The fourth generation Ford Taurus (4G) was produced simultaneously with the new larger front wheel drive sedan, the Ford Five Hundred and was discontinued in late 2006 for the 2007 model year. After the untimely Taurus 4G, Five Hundred stoppage, it was renamed 5G Taurus.
Autoblog and The Truth About Cars expressed disappointment that Ford let the Taurus signboard decline. MSNBC interviewed many Ford workers who felt that Ford unfairly abandoned a car that had done a lot to revive Ford and the US industry. In an editorial on October 25, 2006 USA Today , "How Ford is starving with its Taurus", it is noted that while Japan stays with their popular models and keeps them up to date and competitive (like Toyota Corolla, producing since the 1960s), Detroit automakers regularly abandon established models to look for the "next big thing".
After taking a position as CEO at Ford Alan Mulally said in an interview with the Associated Press that he confused Taurus has been stopped, saying he believes stopping Taurus is a mistake, and that Five Hundred should be named "Taurus" from the beginning. In mid-2007, the revamped Five Five and Freestyle versions were unveiled as "Taurus" and "Taurus X" at the Chicago Auto Show 2007. In a later interview, Mulally said Taurus's name was famous and had positive brand equity, something that would take time and money to given to the Five Hundreds.
Variant
Mercury Sable
For the 2008 model year, Mercury Montego received the same mid-life update as the Ford Five Hundred; In line with the revival of Ford Taurus, Montego was named Mercury Sable. Receive the same 3.5-speed and 6-speed automatic like the Taurus, a wider Sable cosmetic update, with redesigned front and rear fascia, larger grille, and clear lens taillamps. The redesigned interior adopts several changes, including a two-tone leather seat, with a woodgrain that is printed hydrographically in various color patterns.
As part of the Mercury brand closure, Sable ended production after the 2009 model year; there is no Mercury Sable partner of the sixth generation that entered the development of Taurus.
Ford Taurus X
Along with mid-cycle updates to the Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego, for 2008, Ford Freestyle crossover SUVs received a similar update, adopting the Ford Taurus X plates. Sharing the powertrain from Taurus/Sable, Taurus X adopted a revised front fascia, similar to a sedan Taurus. In line with the larger Ford SUV, Taurus X offers the outdoor edition of Eddie Bauer for the first time.
Following a lower than expected sales, Taurus X ended production on February 27, 2009; Although not an official replacement, the Ford Flex is also a crossover SUV based on the Ford Taurus D3-platform.
