Website builder is a tool that normally allows website development without manual code editing. They fall into two categories:
- an online proprietary tool provided by the web hosting company. This is usually intended for users to build their personal sites. Some companies allow site owners to install alternative tools (commercial or open source) - the more complex it can also be described as the Content Management System;
- offline software running on the computer, creating pages and then being able to publish this page on any host. (This is often regarded as "website design software", not "website builder".)

Histori
The first website was created in the early 1990s. These sites are written manually in HTML.
Over time, software was created to help design web pages: for example. Microsoft released FrontPage in November 1995.
In 1998 Dreamweaver was established as an industry leader; however, some people criticize the quality of the code generated by the software because it is too excessive and depends on the table. As the industry moves toward the W3C standard, Dreamweaver and others are criticized for being disobedient. Compliance has improved over time, but many professionals still prefer to write optimized markup by hand.
Open source tools are usually developed for standard, and make fewer exceptions for predominantly Internet Explorer deviations from the standard.
The W3C started Amaya in 1996 to showcase Web technologies in full-featured Web clients. This is to provide a framework that integrates many W3C technologies in a consistent environment. Amaya started as an HTML and CSS editor and now supports XML, XHTML, MathML, and SVG.
GeoCities is one of the first modern website builders that requires no technical skills. Five years after launch in 1994 Yahoo! bought it for $ 3.6 billion. After becoming obsolete, it closed in April 2009.

Online vs. offline
Online website creators usually require customers to sign up with a web hosting company. Some companies provide examples of fully functional websites created with their website builders. The range of services varies anywhere between creating basic personal web pages or social networking content to create a complete business and e-commerce website, whether templates based or, on a more flexible platform, completely free of design.
The main advantages of online website creators are quick and easy to use, and often do not require prior experience. Often, a website can be built and can instantly live on the internet quickly. Technical support is usually provided, as well as how to video and help files. While there are many general website builders you can easily find online website makers that are tailor-made for specific niche (dating, medical etc) with the features needed for this niche.
Sites are generally created using HTML or Adobe Flash. Flash is a proprietary format that becomes de facto standard , once supported by all major browsers with the help of browser extensions. However, it has declining popularity, since it has been replaced by Web standards (HTML5) and is no longer supported by iOS (Apple) and Android (Google) main iOS mobile operating systems. Flash uses more resources than HTML.
The HTML tool is divided into tools that allow editing of source code and which only has WYSIWYG mode.
Offline web creators serve professional web designers who need to create pages for more than one client or web host. Modern offline web builders are usually WYSIWYG and allow direct editing of source code and style sheet cascading (CSS). They generally need at least a basic understanding of HTML and CSS. Although they are more flexible than online builders, they are often expensive. However, some open source website builders can be downloaded for free or with the "freemium" license model.
