Versi global

In 1932, Forrest Mars, son of American candy maker Frank C. Mars, rented a factory in Slough and with twelve staff members, began making chocolate comprising nougat and caramel covered in milk chocolate, which was modeled after his father's Milky Way. bar, which is already popular in the US. Bars and the proportion of major components have changed over the years. With a slight variation, this version is sold worldwide, except for the US, and packed in black wrap with red-eyed red letters.

In 2002, the Mars bar was redefined and the logo updated with a more cursive appearance. The price also increased. Nougat is made lighter, the chocolate on it becomes thinner, and the overall weight of the stem is slightly reduced. The slogan "Pleasure you can not measure" is meant to attract more women and young people.

Various sizes are made (size in 2008): miniature bars called "Fun Size" (19.7 g) and "Snack Time" (36.5 g) (both sold in multiple packages); multi-pack sizes greater than 54 g; regular size 58 g bar and "king size" 84 g bar which has since been replaced by "Mars Duo" (85 g) - a package containing 2 bars smaller than 42.5 g each instead of 1 large. Regular bg 58 g single contains 260 calories.

In the second half of 2008, Mars UK reduced the regular bar weight from 62.5 g to 58 g. Although the size reduction was not made public at the time, Mars claimed the change was designed to help overcome the obesity crisis in Britain. The company then confirms that the real reason for the change is the rising cost. In 2013, the "standard" Mars bar was reduced to 51 g.

In Britain, most Mars bars are still made at Slough Trading Estate.

United States

Mars rods worldwide are different from those sold in the US. The American version was discontinued in 2002 and replaced with slightly different Snickers Almonds featuring nougat, almonds, and milk chocolate layers. Unlike the American Mars bar, however, the Almond Snickers also contain caramel. The US version of the Mars bar was relaunched in January 2010 and was initially sold exclusively through Walmart stores. The European version of the Mars bar is also sold in several US grocery stores. The US version is again discontinued at the end of 2011. In September 2017, Ethel M Chocolates, a gourmet chocolate subsidiary of Mars, Inc. launching 'native American recipes' from Mars Bar in their store and at Amazon.com.

The international and Canadian Mars Bar is very similar to the United States Milky Way bar, which also produced Mars, Inc. (not to be confused with the European version of the Milky Way, which is similar to the 3rd United States Musketeers).

Australia

In May 2009 the size of the Mars Bar decreased from 60g to 53g, citing portion sizes and obesity debates as a key driver.

In Australia there is a debate about halal certification. Also within the Muslim community there is a debate about the virtue of halal certification for products such as Mars bar.

Custom packaging

The Original Mars bar in "Believe" packaging was sold in the UK from April 18, 2006 until the end of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in July. "Believe" became famous in packaging ("Original Mars" appeared in smaller prints) to show support for the English national football team. Advertisements in other countries in the UK are adjusted to reflect their own team after public condemnation, although in Scotland the "Believe" packaging is still in use - causing negative publicity.

On July 30, 2008, the Tasmanian government announced that it had received a major sponsorship, Mars for an offer to enter the Australian Football League in a $ 4 million deal for 3 years and would temporarily change the name of its best-selling chocolate bar. in Australia to Believe, to help promote Tasmania's goals.

Mars was re-branded "Hopp" (engl. "Go!") In Switzerland during UEFA Euro 2008. Like the "Believe" packaging sold in the UK in 2006, "Original Mars" was also featured in smaller prints.

In 2010, to promote British involvement in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the British Packing Martian background became the cross of St. John's. George.

Call back

In July 2005, the Mars bar, along with the Snickers bar, was recalled for an anonymous extortion attempt against Star City Casino in Sydney. The lighter claims to have poisoned seven Mars bars and Snickers in random stores in New South Wales. As a result, Masterfoods Company, a company that produces Mars bar in Australia, remembers all Mars products and Snickers from store shelves in New South Wales. Nineteen people may be affected, with two being hospitalized. In the latter half of August 2005, threats to the public were considered meaningless and the bars returned to the shelves.

In February 2016, Mars, Snickers, and various chocolate products Mars, Inc. others are drawn in 55 countries in Europe, Middle East and Asia. A cautionary note was issued after customers found plastic scraps in Snickers bar purchased in Germany. The error was traced back to Mars, Inc. plant. in Veghel, Netherlands.

Controversy of animal products

In May 2007 Mars UK announced that Mars bar, along with many other products such as Snickers, Maltesers, Minstrels and Twix are no longer suitable for vegetarians due to the introduction of rennet, a chemical derived from the calf's belly used in whey production.

The rabbinical authority declares that the product remains lawful for Jewish consumption.

The decision was condemned by some groups, with the Vegetarian Society declaring that "at a time when more and more consumers are worried about their food origins, Mars's decision to use non-vegetarian whey is a step backward".

Mars then abandoned this plan, stating that it became "very clear, very fast" that it had made a mistake.
