First season Man v. Food was originally taken for 10 episodes and then, after a successful initial rating, 8 additional episodes were ordered. The Los Angeles Times noted that the Travel Channel received the highest ever ratings for a new debut with Man v. Food . They highlight the show as an example of another network that operates in the traditional field of Food Network.
Critical reaction
CityPages Minneapolis/St. Paul explains the show, "... like the food version of Jackass , with host Adam Richman as Steve-O himself." In Star-Ledger Television critic Alan Sepinwall writes, "It's not in, and it's definitely not healthy (I can feel my arteries clogging just from watching), but it's fun." Features reporter Thomas Rozwadowski of Green Bay Press-Gazette says that "the passionate host Adam Richman has won me" and "it's all fun."
