Control Panel is a Microsoft Windows component that provides the ability to view and change system settings. It consists of a set of applets that include adding or removing hardware and software, controlling user accounts, changing accessibility options, and accessing network settings. Additional applets are provided by third parties, such as audio and video drivers, VPN tools, input devices, and network tools.
The Control Panel has been part of Microsoft Windows since Windows 2.0, with each successive version introducing a new applet. Starting with Windows 95, the Control Panel is implemented as a special folder, ie the folder is not physically present, but contains only shortcuts to various applets such as Add or Remove Programs and Internet Options . Physically, this applet is saved as a .cpl file. For example, the Add or Remove Programs applet is stored under the name appwiz.cpl in the SYSTEM32 folder.
In Windows XP, the Control Panel home screen is changed to present a categorized navigation structure that reminds about navigating web pages. Users can switch between Category Views and
Many individual Control Panel applets can be accessed in other ways. For example, Display Properties can be accessed by right-clicking on a blank area of ââthe desktop and selecting Properties . The Control Panel can be accessed from a command prompt by typing control ; Optional parameters are available to open certain control panels.
In Windows 10, the Control Panel no longer supports the Settings app, which was originally introduced in Windows 8 as "PC settings" to provide a touch-optimized settings area using its Metro-style app platform. Some functions, especially the ability to add and delete user accounts, are moved exclusively to this app in Windows 8 and can not be performed from the Control Panel.

Daftar applet Control Panel
The applets listed below are the Microsoft Windows control panel component , allowing users to specify settings for their computers, monitor device statuses such as printers and modems, and manage new hardware, programs and network connections. Each applet is stored separately as a separate file (usually a.cpl file), folder or DLL, the location stored in the registry under the following buttons:
- HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ Control Panel \ Cpls
It contains the location of the string format of all.cpl files on the hard drive used in the control panel. - HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Current Version \ Explorer \ ControlPanel \ Namespace
It contains the location of the CLSID variable for all the panels that are not included as a cpl file. This is usually a shell folder or applet, although Windows Vista allows the physical program itself to be registered as well. The CLSID then allows items like icons, infoboxes and categories to be set and gives the location of the files to be used.
The control panel then uses this list to find the applet and load it into the control panel program (control.exe) when it is started by the user. In addition to using the control panel, users can also invoke applets manually through the command processor. For example, the syntax " Control.exe inetcpl.cpl " or " control.exe/Microsoft name.InternetOptions " will run the Internet property applet in Windows XP or Vista sequentially.. While both instances of syntax are accepted in Windows Vista, only the first one is accepted in Windows XP.
