Plot

Grandpa Stan Marsh Marvin gave him a bolo tie decorated with gems, saying that Gems & amp; The Gem Network (J & D) Shopping Network, from which it bought it, claims that 14 carat gold and diamonds make it worth $ 6,000. After Cartman teased him for wearing a tacky and unfashionable item, Stan took him to the Cash For Gold store where he was offered $ 15 for it. Other similar merchants offered little or nothing for the item, and Stan realized that his grandfather had been duped. Cartman showed his friends infomercial J & amp; G, where half-senile senior citizens are tricked into buying cheap jewelry for their families. Stan attempts to talk Marvin out of buying him or his sister Shelly more valuable stuff, but Marvin suffers from Alzheimer's disease and instead deals with an anecdote booth over and over from a Border Collie named Patch he once had, but regrets that he can no longer remember how does he look.

Stan started the crusade to stop the exploitation of parents in this way, and vowed to keep track of whoever was at the top of the trade. Meanwhile, Cartman decided to go into the infomercial business with Butters as his best friend, and not only started offering cash for his classmates for gold, he also set up his own television channel and imitated the tone and technique of Dean, the host at J & G. She visits the jewelry store to replenish, but she sees the women in the store using the same attitude that she and Dean use, revealing that they are scam artists as well.

Cartman arrives at a factory in India where jewelry is made, intend to buy directly from them, and finds Stan here too, complaining about what they do. In a montage, it was revealed that the business was a continuous circle: jewelry made in factories shipped to the United States, where scam artists sold it to senior citizens, who gave it as a gift to relatives. The relatives sell gifts for cash, and they are then merged into raw gold and shipped back to the Indian factory for repair into new jewelry. An employee at the factory gave Stan a picture frame, which he received. Stan presents Marvin with a framed picture of Marvin and his deceased dog in the frame, and Marvin, not remembering to give Stan bolo, tells him that it is "gay," and Stan promises not to wear it again.

Stan calls host J & amp; G, Dean, and told him to commit suicide for having cheated many parents of their money. This sparked a trend, and Dean, overwhelmed with calls from parents who repeated the request, eventually obeyed and shot himself in the head, splashing the unworthy jewelry display with his blood.

Reception

Max Nicholson of IGN gave the episode a "Great" score of 8 out of 10, noting that although the episode "did take some scenes to actually get the cook", clips from the infomercial segment were the apex of the episode, such as "a montage that surrounds anyone who kissed him deny it and sing it completely over it ". Nicholson also notes the similarity of Stan's phone calls to J & amp; G, where he angrily urged the host to commit suicide, to "Marketing and Advertising" a bit from the 1997 comedian Bill Hicks's album Arizona Bay.

Marcus Gilmer from The A.V. The club gave the episode a score of B. Comparing it to the previous episode, he noted, "There are many sentences that make me laugh" but "the episode failed from previous attempts at social commentary, including last week's episode".
