Barre is a form of physical exercise, usually done in group classes at a gym or special studio. It is distinguished from the activities of other fitness groups by the use of ballet barre and the incorporation of movements derived from ballet. Classical dance movements and positions are combined with movements taken from yoga and pilates, and other tools are sometimes used in addition to barre, such as resistance bands, yoga ropes, exercise balls and hand loads. Barre classes typically focus on small pulsating motions with an emphasis on form, alignment and core engagement. Participants hold their bodies when contracting specifically, set muscle targets in isometric exercises. Repetition tends to be high, small range of motion, and weight, when used, light (1-1.5 kg or 2-3 pounds). Barre classes focus on the lower body, developing strength and flexibility from the ankle upwards even though the calves, knees, thighs, and glutes. Criticism and risk

One of the criticisms of barre is that power is derived from small, isometric exercises do not build functional strength in the same way as the common compound movements in traditional strength exercises, since many of the movements used in barre classes are not used anywhere except in dance. History

Barre was created by Lotte Berk's ballerina in London in 1959. After wounding his back, Berk got the idea of ​​combining his ballet routine with his rehabilitative therapy to form a training system. In 1959 he opened The Lotte Berk Studio in his West End basement. He numbered Joan Collins and Barbra Streisand among his students.

One of Berk's students, Lydia Bach, brought barre to the United States. He opened the Lotte Berk Method Studio in New York City in 1971, where he operated until 2005. Barre grew rapidly in popularity in the 2010s. By 2015, the Barre Murni chain alone has nearly 300 studios in the United States, and The Bar Method has over 80.
