Risk management plan is a document prepared by the project manager to estimate the risk, estimate the impact, and determine the response to the problem. It also contains a risk assessment matrix.

Risk is "an uncertain event or condition which, if it occurs, has a positive or negative effect on the project objectives." Risks are embedded in any project, and the project manager must assess the risks constantly and develop a plan to address them. The risk management plan contains a high-potential and low-risk potential analysis, as well as a mitigation strategy to help the project avoid the annoyance if a common problem arises. The risk management plan should be periodically reviewed by the project team to avoid the analysis being stale and does not reflect the actual project risk potential.

Most importantly, risk management plans include risk strategies. Broadly speaking, there are four potential strategies, with many variations. Project may choose to:

  • A void risk - Change plans to avoid problems;
  • C ontrol/Risk mitigation; - R edits impacts or possibilities (or both) through intermediate steps;
  • Response risk - Take the opportunity for a negative impact (or car insurance ), ultimately budget cost (eg through a budget line contingency) ;
  • T risk of ransfer - Outsource risk (or any part of the risk - S rabbit risk ) to a third party or party that can manage the results. This is done financially through insurance contracts or hedging transactions, or operationally through outsourcing of an activity.

Risk management plans often include matrices.

The US Department of Defense, as part of the acquisition, uses a risk management plan that may have a Risk Management Plan document for a particular project. The general purpose of RMP in this context is to determine the scope of the risk to be tracked and the means of documenting the report. It is also desirable that there will be an integrated relationship with other processes. This example will describe which developmental tests verify the risk of a minimized design type is expressed as part of the master plan for evaluation and evaluation. A further example is an instruction from 5000.2D that for programs that are part of a system system, a risk management strategy should specifically address integration and interoperability as an area of risk. RMP custom processes and templates shift over time (eg the loss of the 2002 Defense Finance and Accounting Services/Risk Management Plan, and SPAWAR Risk Management) documents.
