Proof of submission (POD) is a method to establish the fact that the recipient receives the content sent by the sender. When the sender sends several documents by mail, it is possible that some do not reach the intended recipient. Generally post offices provide a secured additional shipping service, known as Avis de rÃÆ' Â © ception, where they need a recipient to sign papers and papers submitted by the postal service for a certain number of days.
Proof of delivery is very important when legal and financial documents are exchanged between two parties. In the United States, DHL, UPS and FedEx as well as US postal service (USPS) provide proof of delivery. Commercial fleet operators must also be able to confirm proof of delivery of goods to their customers.
In e-commerce, businesses trade millions of electronic documents to track shipping information using computer-to-computer communication techniques such as email, FTP, and EDI. These documents contain various transaction details, including information on purchase orders, invoices, delivery details, product specifications, and price quotations. Electronic documents can exchange new data as well as corrections for previously sent messages.
Legal complications may arise if the recipient company rejects a corrected product specification or a message regarding delayed delivery. Both companies may dispute, each proving/not proving a particular communication.
Message-oriented middleware (MOM) is a class of software used to implement the exchange of computer-based business documents. Such systems provide proof of shipping service using techniques such as logging each send/receive activity.
The company also employs intermediate data intermediaries to exchange information. Hiring such services not only provides proof of delivery but also other services such as data integrity, multi-point delivery, and a single point of contact for data exchange.
