Video Brigadeiro
Histori
In 1945, shortly after the end of World War II, Brazil was in the campaign for a new presidential election. Candidate Eduardo Gomes, whose military rank is Brigadier (brigadeiro), is a huge success among women, evidenced by his slogan in the campaign "Choosing a handsome and single Brigadier!"
Therefore, his most loyal voters decided to try to promote his campaign by organizing parties to raise funds and provide more visibility to their candidates. Contrary to selling the usual electoral merchandising, they decided to make candy for sale in these meetings. However, there is a problem. As in the postwar period, milk and fresh sugar are very minimal, which complicates the task of making candies. So they decided to use condensed milk, mix it with butter and chocolate.
It was created what came to be known as "Brigadeiro candy" and sold during the campaign, trying to reach a vote through the voter's ceiling. The candy was a success, but the candidate was not elected.
During the 50's the name was abbreviated and desserts spread all over the country, always with excellent reception.

Culture
The brigadeiro is a large part of Brazilian culture and is considered a national icon. Generally made in Brazilian homes, it can be eaten with a spoon directly from the pot, which is why it can sometimes be called "brigadeiro de colher" (brigadeiro spoon). Usually in the form of small balls covered with a sprinkling of chocolate and placed in a small cupcake mold. These desserts are usually served for children at birthday parties and eaten after birthday cakes. The brigadeiro can also be presented in different reunions, especially when friends get together. It has sentimental value for most Brazilians.
